And Then They Rested!

13 Aug 2010--Had a restful day today, drove to the Ogden Canyon Recreational Area for some scenic stimulation (haha) and a restful day at the lake.

On our way into the canyon we passed this 18 wheeler overturned on the small, winding road. Note to Jack: see what happens when those guys driving the big trucks don't drive carefully???!!!

Here are some pics of the lake area. The weather was beautiful, about 82 degrees with a breeze. The water was colder than Texas for sure, and Marie said it was colder than the water had been back in Boston for most of the summer, also.

I have no idea what Marie and I are laughing about in the 1st picture, (Marie is really throwing her head back in it, so it must have been a good one), but we are all laughing at how cold we are in the others. Cathy never gets in the water so she is only joining us under duress, I am freezing coming out of the water in the wind, and Marie is cringing as I put my cold hand on her back for the last picture. A very friendly woman on the beach who kept talking to us was kind enough to take the pics for us.

When we left the beach we took the scenic route home, 1st passing this field that actually had fake cows and a fake woman in it. Why anyone would do this we don't know, but it got us to take a picture, so maybe that's what they wanted.

To get home we had to go over the mountains on Trapper's Loop Highway...the stitch pic is the view as we crest the mountains. It was in these mountains that they held some of the skiing events for the 2002 Olympics (Snow Basin Ski Resort).
At the foot of the mountains, and on seemingly every street in Utah, is a church exactly like this one, steeple and all. The Mormons try to have a church in every neighborhood, and sometimes 3 it seems. They are very noticeable because of the steeples...I could be wrong but I think they are carbon copies of each other.
Tomorrow we are going on the hot air ballon ride...wish us luck!!!

  1. This is definitely my type of day, of course, excluding the rolled over truck. Marie was probably laughing because you asked her if she liked the "Great Salt Lake" water with the "BUGS", etc. better than what she was standing in.
The fake cows and fake lady picture also looks like it has a "fake mountain".
The last picture would be beautiful with a "rainbow" in it. Paula, come on I'm sure you can cut and past one in it.
Hot air balloon ride is going to be "GREAT"! Just pray that there is enough gas in the tank to get you through the ride. It's not like you can pull over and call AAA. Have FUN!

  2. The water may be colder, but you know your not at Carson Beach anymore from the color of the water.
