Most of the towns here in Utah have the 1st letter of the town name painted on the mountains above them, as the 2nd pic shows.
Because it only took us an hour and a quarter to get here, we were able to set up the RV and still get in a little sightseeing. We 1st headed to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, a place heavily advertised here, but really nothing to write home about if you don't have a 4 wheel ATV. The park ranger told us we could go hiking in it, but we quickly passed that offer. The most interesting thing about this place is that some of the scenes from the movie "The Greatest Story Ever Told" were filmed here. Can't you just see them trekking thru the desert!?
The sand is made from these rocks underneath it in this pic. It is called Navajo Sandstone, and after millions of years of rain and such, a lot of it has been pulverized to grains of sand.
Seeing as the sand dune excursion didn't take us long, we headed over to the Little Hollywood Museum on the edge of town. Carol and John had told us about this spot, a free outside museum where they have a lot of movie props from movies that were made in this area. Kanab calls itself the "Little Hollywood" because so many movies have been here over the years. Along with the Moab area that we saw before, this area gets a lot of action.

We liked the Moab display much better than this one...this seemed to be a place that was really just trying to get you thru the door to the gift shop more than anything else. There were a few "old west" buildings in the back of the gift shop, but we liked all the movie posters at the other place better.
Gunsmoke, Rin Tin Tin, and Wagon Train were among some of the movies/tv shows filmed here.
We were just watching this movie yesterday and saw the building that they were having the shoot-out in.
I've been out of work so I read 3 days at once. Thank God you quit smoking. I'm glad you did it for the cool pictures.
