Powwow!!!!!

3 May 2010--So we have been waiting around here not doing much of anything, playing a little golf is about all, until this past Saturday. Hallie found out about this event in San Marcos, about an hour north of San Antonio, so we decided to check it out.

It was the First Annual Sacred Springs Powwow and Indian Market. And it was dedicated to reuniting the eagle and condor, which many Native peoples believe will restore peace and harmony to the planet.

There were representatives from many tribes, and they told us that most of the music came from the Indians in Oklahoma. Check out a little of the dancing.

During the "Grand Entry", they played the song that is the American Indian equivalent of our National Anthem. This guy holding the staff led the way...I think the staff is like our flag to them.

There was an Indian Market to go along with the Powwow, so several vendors were selling things...notice the t-shirt...I love it! And the lady selling the circular things tried to keep me from taking a picture of her stuff...she yelled at us...little did she know that my trusty camera has a zoom lens!

I loved a lot of the outfits I saw, but this little boy's get-up had to be the best! Lots of people were taking pictures of him and his mother.

These were just some of the outfits on display at the powwow. Aren't they great!!!

Looks like these white people snuck in at the last minute. They just don't look right, and the young boy couldn't dance to save his life.

Look at how cute this little boy is in the video!

We are hoping to head out of here about the 15th of May...we will keep you posted as to our plans.

  1. What beautiful colors!!! I would love to go to something like this. Their outlook on life and all the connections is beautiful and makes sense to me.

  2. These are great pictures! They don't look like the Indians(Native American's) we saw when we were riding thru Montanna in Blackfoot country.
    Do you remember??
