From Gunnison to Colorado Springs

7 Jun 2010-Travelled from Gunnison to outside Colorado Springs today. Had to cross the Continental Divide, via Monarch Pass, so of course I took a few videos for you. Here are 2 going up the mountain. ( I show these because I am sure they are giving Ellen, Marie, and Barb ulcers--haha)

Here we have reached the Summit...really pretty!

And now we start our way down. Check out these signs...they have these all over Montana, but these were the 1st we saw of them in Colorado. If you blow up the sign on the right, where the actual ramp is, the white sign says "Runaway Vehicles Only", like you would go there just for the fun of it! The regular road curls to left before you get to the ramp. Can you imagine losing your brakes on any of these roads?

Once we were safely off the mountain, the reast of the ride was uneventful...still pretty though. We have been amazed at the amount of water in Colorado. Almost every road you ride on has a river rushing alongside it. Notice all these rafters have long sleeves on, also jeans, because the water is so cold.

Our RV park is on the right of this picture. And the horses are along the road into the park.

These people pulled into the park right after us. Check out the Smart Car on the cab of the big rig, between that and the 5th wheel RV.

Once we got settled we took a walk around the park area and saw several deer in the woods, about 30 ft off the road. We took these pictures for Cathy's father...notice the horns on the deer...he is just starting to grow them, still fuzz on them.

After dinner we took a hike up the side of the mountain at the back of the campground. If you blow up the 1st picture you can see all the RVs in the foreground...and the 2nd picture is just beautiful, isn't it?!
Going to the Air Force Academy tomorrow, and the Royal Gorge probably Wednesday or Thursday....keep praying we have the nerve to take the ride!

  1. What a cute deer. I wanna touch those fuzzy antlers.
Cathy seemed to be moving at quite a clip going down that mountain.
Looks like mostly trailers and fifth wheels at where you are staying.
Be Brave when you go to the gorge.

  4. Cathy was not actually driving that fast...probably 30-35 MPH tops, but it feels and looks faster as you head to a turn.

And Ellen, I think you mean Barb instead of Hallie...and yes, she does stay up all night! haha And tell Maggie to keep watching...some good stuff will be here.

I keep wondering where Patti is? I know she must be reading this....so why are you not commenting Patti?
